Emilio Ontiveros Economics Award for Mariana Mazzucato

Madrid, April 8th,2025. Professor Mariana Mazzucato has won the third edition of the Emilio Ontiveros Economics Award, which will be presented in Madrid on June 5.
The jury highlighted her influential work on the role of the state in shaping markets, her tireless efforts to bring economic thinking closer to society, and her impact on global public policy debates, aspects that fully embody the spirit of the award.
Mariana is an internationally renowned academic with a PhD in Economics from the New School for Social Research and has a distinguished career at prestigious institutions such as University College London (UCL), where she is currently Professor of Economics of Innovation and Public Value and founding Director of the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP).
She has been named honoris causa from several universities around the world and has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Official Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2021, Italy's highest civilian decoration; the John von Neumann Prize in 2020; the Madame de Staël Prize of the European Academies in 2019 for Cultural Values; and the Leontief Prize for Extending the Frontiers of EconomicThought in 2018. Her books, The Entrepreneurial State (2013) and Mission Economics (2021), have inspired economic strategies in several countries, including Spain.
This award encourages, promotes and recognizes professionals who represent the values of Emilio Ontiveros: in-depth knowledge of economics and finance, commitment to dissemination and training, communication skills and entrepreneurial spirit.
The jury for this thirdedition was composed of Ángel Berges, president of the Afi Emilio Ontiveros Foundation; Soledad Núñez, deputy governor of the Bank of Spain; Paloma Marín, vice-president of the CNMV; Vicente Salas, representing the academic world; Francisco Ros, representing the business world; and Montserrat Domínguez, representing the media.
The winner of the firstedition was Sara de la Rica, founder of the ISEAK Foundation and professor atthe University of the Basque Country. In the second edition, the winner was the economist Francisco Pérez García, research director and founder of the Valencian Institute of Economic Research and professor at the University of Valencia.
The presentation of the EmilioOntiveros Economics Award will take place on June 5 at the Official College ofArchitects of Madrid (COAM).
